What’s Your Vinyl Collection Worth?

Many people aren’t sure what their records are really worth, and that’s OK. We’ve put together this simple guide to help you understand how we value vinyl collections and what you can expect.

What Affects the Value of Vinyl

Several key factors influence what a record is worth:

  • Pressing – First pressings, especially UK or US originals, often carry the most value.
  • Rarity – Small-run or hard-to-find releases are more sought after.
  • Condition – Both the record and sleeve should be clean and undamaged.
  • Genre & Demand – Some genres attract more buyers than others.
  • Completeness – Original inner sleeves, inserts, and box set contents add value.

We consider all of these when reviewing your records.

Common High-Value Genres & Artists

These genres often contain valuable titles:

  • Northern Soul, Motown, and Funk – Especially original 7-inch pressings.
  • Classic Rock – Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bowie.
  • Reggae & Ska – Studio One, Trojan, Island, Dub and Roots.
  • Jazz – Blue Note, Prestige, Impulse, UK Esquire pressings.
  • Metal & Punk – Iron Maiden, Metallica, early punk 7-inches.

Of course, not everything is rare but complete collections often contain hidden gems.

Condition Grading – What We Look For

We visually assess records during our visit. Here’s how we typically grade:

  • Excellent/Near Mint – Very little to no signs of use. Sought after.
  • Very Good – Some light wear or marks, still plays well.
  • Good/Fair – Heavier signs of wear or surface noise. Still collectable in bulk.
  • Poor – Damaged or warped records. Usually not viable for resale.

We always price fairly based on condition and saleability.

Realistic Offers – How We Price Collections

We don’t make wild promises or cherry-pick a few valuable titles. We make realistic, fair offers based on:

  • The number of records
  • The quality and variety of genres
  • The saleability of the collection

We buy in bulk, so our prices reflect both the value and the convenience of you not having to do the hard work of listing them yourself.

What We Don’t Buy

Some records have little or no resale value:

  • Classical records (with a few rare exceptions)
  • Budget label compilations (e.g. Pickwick, K-Tel)
  • Damaged or warped records
  • Most mainstream pop from the late 80s to early 2000s

That said, we’re always happy to review a collection in full and let you know what’s worth selling.
